Guide for Students

RUMC Library Student Access

All RUMC students have access to information services support and to the onsite book stacks. The library reading room is accessible 24/7 and is assigned as a quiet learning environment. The information service desk operates from 9 am to 5 pm. Food and drinks are not allowed in the area except bottled water.

What library staff can do for you:

Lead librarian support:

If you need help with literature search, project guidance, tutorials on using databases, academic writing and other learning support services; contact the librarian and schedule an appointment.

Service Desk staff support:

Loan and return of books, loan of course reserve items, searching online library catalogue, printing and photocopying.

Finding Information

Welcome to the RUMC Library student guide

The RUMC Library holds focused resources to support the medical curriculum. The libguide brings together key resources and support materials for information and literature searching.

Students have access to the onsite print collection and access to RUMC, RCSI and UCD online resources. All students have access to RUMC resources while access to RCSI or UCD online libraries is permitted for students registered in the respective universities.

The recommended resources section highlights all of the resources subscribed by RUMC Library. The Guide to Literature Searching outlines step by step how to do literature searching and how to write up your search strategy.

RUMC Library subscribes to the following resources:

  • Clinical Key platform - ebooks and other learning resources
  • Brownsbook platform - ebooks collection
  • Cochrane Database- Evidence-based reviews
  • End Note 20 - Reference Manager (To get access to institutional license contact the library for information)
  • PUBMED - Biomedical resources

KOHA Online Catalogue

  1. KOHA has a listing of all the print books and recommended reading for the medical programme at RUMC.
  2. Click on KOHA library catalogue hyperlink to access KOHA.
  3. You don't need to enter login usernames or password.
  4. Click on Advanced Search to search the print collection.
